Andres Segovia - Hermann Hauser I - 1931

portrait.jpg

Considered one of the greatest musicians of the

20th century, Andrès Segovia commissioned Hermann Hauser to built a guitar for him which would be suitable for playing in large concert halls.

Their joint collaboration began in 1924, and in 1931 Hauser built the first of two such guitars for Segovia. The second was built in 1937 and is on display at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City.

Segovia delighted many audiences with these guitars over the years.

The 1931 Hauser is featured herein.

This Instrument is made from beautiful Brazilian Rosewood, chosen for its figure and excellent quality. It features original Lantsdorfer tuners on a classic Hauser headstock which consists of a shell center strip inlaid in Brazilian Rosewood.

The guitar features Hauser`s ornate spanish label on the back, inside the body; and the rosette is the wider, elaborate Torres style.

The inscription pictured above is placed on the foot of the guitar inside the body and requires a mirror to see. It was written in french, the language Andrès Segovia and Hermann Hauser I had in common.

Inscription: "Pour mon cher ami, le grande maestro Andrès Segovia fait de H. Hauser, Munchen 1931."

English Translation: "For may dear friend, the great maestro Andrès Segovia made by H. Hauser, Munich 1931."

As a true artist, Hermann Hauser I sought out the most beautiful materials an crafted them with his genius into this wonderful guitar.

The sound is smooth, refined and powerful.
